We’re three weeks in and the Ravens have a problem on the interior offensive line after losing both of their C options to in-game injuries on Sunday.
The pass protection hasn’t been good enough and Lamar Jackson is currently the 7th most pressured QB in the NFL at a 43.3% pressure rate on dropbacks.
The composite pass protection ratings are telling. The Ravens have performed slightly better on GPS data (which is the ESPN rating), but have been a disaster in blown block percentage (SIS) and PFF grading.
Now why is this significant? GPS data can be misleading and lacking of context, but blown block rating is the key for me. We’ve seen for the last two years how impactful blown blocks can be, specifically from the iOL.
That’s why blown-block rate matters more to me. A blown block creates immediate pressure, and immediate pressure changes quarterbacks. You start bailing from clean pockets, speeding up reads and anticipating pressure that isn’t even there. We’ve watched that become a problem for this offense over the last two years.
