After The Tape: Did Baltimore’s Defense Deserve Better?

Baltimore's defense gave the offense opportunities to compete against Josh Allen and the Bills, but injuries, turnovers and an inability to sustain drives left those efforts unrewarded.

The Ravens’ defense deserved a better outcome against the Bills, particularly after what they showed in the first half. Baltimore forced two turnovers, came up with several key stops and gave an injury-depleted offense plenty of chances to keep the game close. In this episode of After the Tape, we go back through those first-half possessions, including some impressive plays from Kayvon Wallace, Kyle Hamilton and Roquan Smith. We also take a closer look at Trey Hendrickson’s work against the run and an encouraging performance from the defensive front. There are still concerns, especially with the fourth-down defense and how things unraveled late, but it’s hard to ignore the circumstances. Buffalo ran 76 offensive plays compared to just 49 for Baltimore, and the Ravens’ defense spent much of the afternoon trying to make up for an offense that couldn’t stay on the field. The final numbers weren’t pretty, but there was more to like on film than the score might suggest.
